Beating The Odds
NORTH OHIO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL "BEATING THE ODDS."
MEDIA RELEASE: GAYLORD COMMUNITY SCHOOLS
The Michigan Department of Education recently recognized 108 schools throughout the state that are “Beating the Odds.” Gaylord Community Schools is proud to acknowledge the inclusion of North Ohio Elementary as one of these exceptionally performing schools despite a prevalence of identifiable risk factors. It is the District’s goal to continually provide opportunities to raise student achievement and, over the past five years, GCS has made substantial, innovative changes designed to specifically aid and enhance academic performance and increase test scores.
In May, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Mike Flanagan distributed an informational message and MDE media release which further explains the successes that these schools are experiencing. At GCS, we are proud of the efforts of the students, staff and administration of North Ohio Elementary School and the recognition and praise extended by the State Board of Education and the Michigan Department of Education. We invite fellow community members to share in our pride as we witness increasing student success despite the often difficult hurdles faced by our young learners.
