Pat Jarve-Band Director of the Year, 2010-District 2
Mr. Pat Jarve is currently completing his 7th year of teaching at the Gaylord Community Schools. Prior to Gaylord, Mr. Jarve taught at the Petoskey Community Schools, Plainwell Community Schools, and Napoleon Community Schools. During his tenure Mr. Jarve has been in charge of all bands and music theory at Gaylord High School and the 6th Grade Beginning Band Program. At Gaylord High School, Mr. Jarve has taught the Marching Band, Jazz Band, Wind Ensemble, Symphony Band, Chamber Music, and Intro to Music Theory. The Gaylord High School Bands have consistently earned 1st Division Ratings at both District and State Band Festivals. In spring 2008, the Gaylord Wind Ensemble earned a 1st Place Award at the Smoky Mountain Music Festival. Each year, over 70% of the Gaylord High School Band Program participates in the District and State Solo and Ensemble Festivals. In 2010, Mr. Jarve was voted “Teacher of the Year” for MSBOA, District 2 by its Music Directors.
Mr. Jarve is a graduate of Oberlin College-Conservatory of Music and Northwestern University. Mr. Jarve has also taken post-graduate classes at the American Band College. In addition to teaching, Mr. Pat Jarve is an active musician (trumpet). He performs with the Northern Michigan Brass Band, Gaylord Chamber Orchestra, Gaylord Community Band, and many local functions. Mr. Jarve resides in Gaylord with his wife Dawn and enjoys golfing, kayaking, fly-fishing, and camping.
