Position: High School Principal
Location: Gaylord High School
Qualifications:
  • A valid Michigan teaching certificate with a secondary endorsement.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience (7-12).
  • A Master’s degree from an accredited institution with course work emphasis in administration, supervision and/or curriculum.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of 7-12 leadership/supervision experience.
  • Eligibility for administrative certification.

  • Understand the needs of and have the ability to relate to secondary school students and possess effective and innovative ideas for working with them.
  • Possess a desire and ability to work effectively with colleagues in the development and execution of a challenging program for secondary school students.
  • Demonstrate a strong working knowledge of the use of technology both in the classroom and as a means for improving the overall effectiveness of the organization.
  • Possess strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize a multitude of tasks.
  • Demonstrate successful experience in providing leadership to school improvement teams in planning and implementing school improvement efforts.
  • Demonstrate the ability to evaluate the quality of teaching performance and to collaborate with teachers in improving classroom performance.
  • Demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of current research and effective practices to design, implement, and maintain a quality secondary school program.
  • Possess strong oral and written communication skills.
Performance Responsibilties (Include but not limited to):
  • Establish and maintain a safe, orderly and effective learning climate in the school.
  • Initiate, design, implement and evaluate programs to meet specific needs of the school.
  • Ensure quality instruction is taking place in all classrooms.
  • Evaluate performance and effectiveness of staff members.
  • Maintain relations with parents, parent groups, school volunteers and outside agencies.
  • Participate in and/or facilitate district-wide activities, in-services and committees, as appropriate.
  • Implement policy and procedure changes from the Board, or State and Federal level at the building level.
  • Assist in the development, revision, and evaluation of the curriculum.
  • Establish guidelines for proper student conduct and maintenance of student discipline.
  • Assume the responsibility for the implementation and observance of Board of Education policies and regulations.
  • Prepare and submit the school’s budgetary requests and monitor expenditures of funds.
  • Prepare or supervise the preparation of reports, records and other paperwork required or appropriate to the school’s administration.
  • Prepare annual report to the community according to the requirements of Public Act 25 and No Child Left Behind.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
Supervises: Assistant Principals, Instructional and support staff of building.
Reports To: Superintendent
Terms of Employment: Salary and fringe benefits as determined by the Gaylord Building Principals’ Association Master Agreement.

Position: K-3rd Grade Reading Specialist/Interventions Teacher
Location: Gaylord Community Schools
Qualifications: Must meet state of Michigan certification requirements and be highly qualified to teach elementary education; must be proficient in student interventions; must have successful experience working cooperatively with colleagues; must have successful experience working with parents and at-risk students; must be proficient in maintaining and analyzing data; must be proficient in literacy assessment; must possess excellent organizational, communication and leadership skills. Reading specialist degree or advanced coursework in literacy preferred.

Position: Infant/Toddler and Preschool Program Assistant
Location: GCS Preschool Program (South Maple) and GCS Infant/Toddler Program (GAP)
Qualifications:

Must meet Department of Human Services qualifications for Lead Caregiver (For example: Associate’s degree or higher in early childhood education, child development or a child-related field OR Child Development Associate Credential with 480 hours of experience OR h igh school diploma/GED with 12 semester hours and 960 hours of experience in a child related filed. Note: The assistant has two years from the date of hire to complete the appropriate training requirements.) Must also have CPR/First Aid certification and DHS clearance prior to working with children.

Job Duties:

Providing supervision for children prior to morning session of preschool program and during morning session of infant/toddler program.

Hours:

5 hours per day, 5 days per week, 7:15 a.m. – 12:45 p.m.

Position: Internal Posting - Kindergarten Assistant
Location: South Maple Elementary School
Qualifications:

Associate’s Degree or equivalent education to meet federal highly qualified standard required. Previous kindergarten, and/or school-based student assistance preferred. DIBELS training preferred. Ability to maintain a pleasant learning environment for early elementary students.

Assignment:

Assist with kindergarten students under teacher direction; supervise playground or cafeteria during lunch; other duties as assigned.

6.5 Hours/Day, 5 Days/Week
