MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
Dear students, parents, and fellow community members,
It is my honor to begin the 2016-17 school year as your new superintendent. Although the position of superintendent is new to me, the school and community of Gaylord are not. The Gaylord area has been an important part of my life for as long as I can remember. Being a lifelong resident of Gaylord has kept me in touch with the uniqueness of the community and the important role that education plays in the success of the students who attend our schools. The high standards that we have established over the years will transition into the future. Gaylord Community Schools will continue to grow, change and adapt to meet the needs of the 21st century learner.
When students return in the fall they will experience new textbooks, instructional practices, and technology. The district has purchased new materials for elementary literacy and middle school math classes. New textbooks not only update the printed materials that students use, but also provide a library of online resources for the teacher and the learner. Teachers have been working over the summer to learn the newest research based instructional practices and are collaborating with administration to make learning for all students the highest priority. Several large projects have been completed during the summer months to enhance technology services to students and staff. We will continue to improve wireless access and provide additional access points. We have also replaced approximately 25% of our PC inventory and upgraded several software applications.
This year, we will see continued integration between school improvement and technology adaption, with the Technology Committee expanding their role in product testing, recommendation and incorporation within the district.
Gaylord Community Schools continue to be recognized at the local, state, and national level as a high achieving district. For the third year in a row we were ranked among the best schools in the nation by the U.S. News & World Report, earning a silver medal for 2016.
I look forward to reconnecting with our approximately 3,000 returning students and families and welcoming all the new students and families coming to Gaylord for the first time. Together we will work to make Gaylord Community Schools one of the best places in the state to live, learn and grow.
