SUPERINTENDENT'S MESSAGE

Dear Students, Parents and Fellow Community Members,

Gaylord Community Schools is a quality learning community in which faculty and staff are dedicated to meeting the individual needs of our 3,200 learners. We are looking forward to renewing and creating relationships with our students and their families throughout the 2010-11 school year.

Gaylord Community Schools provide a rigorous and relevant curriculum enhanced by an array of co-curricular, extra-curricular and athletic opportunities, all of which educate and guide our students as they develop intellectually, socially, and physically. In 2010, each school in our district exceeded both state and federal requirements for Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) and No Child Left Behind (NCLB). In addition, Gaylord’s MEAP and MME scores improve annually and are consistently above state averages.

Our state-of-the art facilities, well-maintained buildings and beautiful grounds are a source of pride and we appreciate the opportunity to share these facilities with a community who continually supports our schools: Gaylord High School (9-12), Gaylord Middle School (7-8), Gaylord Intermediate School (4-6), North Ohio and South Maple Elementary Schools (K-3). In addition, we offer full-day, five-day preschool where four year olds learn through play and prepare for their transition to kindergarten.

The Gaylord Community Schools' Board of Education works diligently to ensure that we remain a financially-sound district committed to increasing student achievement and learning opportunities for all student learners. Each new school year brings new opportunities to carry out our mission. I consider it a privilege to lead the Gaylord Community Schools as we work with our most precious resources: our children.

We invite you to become a part of this outstanding learning community.

Sincerely,

Cheryl A. Wojtas, Superintendent
